Do Ipad 5th Generation have an Apple Pencil?

Apple Pencils are popular wireless stylus pen accessories produced and marketed by Apple Inc. for use with supported iPad tablets. After the release of the 5th generation Ipads, users realized that there was no apple pencil to be used on this new device.

As stated in Wired magazine, “The omission of the Apple Pencil from the new iPad Pro lineup was one of the biggest surprises on stage at Tuesday’s event (during the Ipad’s launch)”.

This blog post will explore why an apple pencil does not exist for ipad 5th generation. Although, it also suggested some solutions to help you get your work done!

1. What is the Apple Pencil?

Apple Pencil is a stylus pen accessory designed for Ipad. This product released by Apple comes with an adaptive interface that allows users to draw and write on their iPads without needing a keyboard or mouse.

The Apple pencil can be used to scroll through spreadsheets, browse photos in your photo library, add annotations to PDFs, etc. This device has six-axis motion sensors. It can detect how much it is tilted from 0° (flat) to 60° (tall). You can use this device for writing and drawing.

2. How does the Apple Pencil work?

The Apple pencil does not require Bluetooth to connect with your Ipad. It makes use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

The NFC antenna is built into the tip of the pencil, and it connects directly to an Ipad by holding them within four centimeters of each other when it is being used.  Usually, this makes the iPad automatically wake up and open the Notes app, so you can start writing.

3. Why is there no apple pencil for the 5th generation Ipad?

The 5th generation iPad was released in March of 2017 and as of now, there is no Apple Pencil available for it. While some may see this as a downside, I believe that there are a few reasons why the lack of an Apple Pencil may not be a big deal.

Firstly, the A12 Bionic chip in the 5th generation iPad is more powerful than the A10 Fusion chip in the iPad Pro 9.7”, which means that it can handle more complex tasks.

Secondly, since the release of iOS 11.3 in late March 2018, users have been able to use the Photos app to create custom animated graphics called Memoji—and these Memoji look even better on the 5th generation iPad.

Hence, Apple probably didn’t see the need for the pencil as a result of this upgrade.

4. How to work around the absence of apple pencil on 5th generation Ipad

Although the apple pencil is not available for the Ipad fifth generation, there are a few ways that you can work around this.

First, you could use your finger to write and draw on the screen. This may be difficult for some people because it is hard to keep your hand steady when drawing or writing for an extended period of time.

If you’re looking forward to writing notes in class or doing a creative project with drawing tools such as Photoshop Touch or Autodesk Sketchbook, then it might be worth waiting until Apple releases an iPad version of its pencil (if they ever do).

If not, that’s okay too: we will all just have to get used to the absence of this tool.

However, what about those artists who need something more? What about those people who want their creations to come alive?! Would it hurt anyone if apple created a special app just for drawing on this device?

The Ipad has a lot of memory and processing power, so maybe the only reason why Apple did not include an Apple pencil was that they needed to make room for other features.

5. What devices are compatible with an Apple Pencil?

The Apple Pencil is only compatible with the following iPad devices according to Apple:

Apple Pencil (1st generation)

  • iPad (6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th generation).
  • iPad Air (3rd generation).
  • iPad mini (5th generation).
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st and 2nd generation).
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch.
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch.

Apple Pencil (2nd generation)

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th and 5th generation).
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation).
  • iPad Air (4th and 5th generation).
  • iPad mini (6th generation).

6. Are there different Apple Pencil models?

Yes, there are two main types of Apple pencils released by Apple so far. Apple released the first version in 2015 while the second version was released in 2018.

The first version works with older iPads and is charged through a lightning port while the second version works with newer iPads and is charged inductively by sticking magnetically to the side of the iPad.

7. Can you connect Apple Pencil to other devices?

No, the Apple Pencil is designed for use with specific Apple iPads and will not work with other devices. Also, the Apple pencil can only connect to one compatible iPad at a time even though it has the capacity to connect to different iPads.

8. Do Apple pencils work on iPhones?

No, Apple pencils are not compatible with iPhones. As stated earlier, they are designed to work with iPads and not iPhones. Also. it wouldn’t make sense to use a pen on a phone because the screens are small and a phone a designed to interact with your fingers mainly.

9. Wrap-up

The lack of an Apple pencil for the iPad 5th generation leaves many users wondering if they should wait to buy a new device or just find another workaround. The Verge suggests using an app called Astropad, which “transforms your iPad into a graphics tablet that can be used with Mac software like Photoshop and Illustrator.”

Another option as suggested earlier is to use your finger as you would typically do. This may not be ideal for everyone, but it gets the job done!

Although there is no apple pencil specifically designed for Ipad Fifth Generation, users could simply just buy an Ipad Pro (if they have the money to do so) and use the pencil with their new device.

The downside of this is that not all apps may work with the apple pencil, so users may find themselves limited in what they can actually do.

In conclusion, there are a few ways to work around the lack of an apple pencil for the iPad 5th generation. However, many people are still waiting for Apple to release something specifically designed for this device.
